This is a period in a women’s life when the ovaries have stopped working. The woman will no longer be fertile and her levels of the female hormones oestrogen and progesterone will fall.
Some women sail through the menopause with no problems at all but other women will feel miserable due to a variety of symptoms suffered. Physical symptoms may include hot flushes, night sweats, vaginal dryness and loss of libido, which is an effect of low testosterone. Psychological symptoms may include anxiety, depression and loss of confidence.
The most effective way of treating menopausal symptoms is with hormone replacement therapy but this requires assessment by a doctor. Drs Lyndsey Myskow, Lee Janson and Susie Martin have a particular interest in HRT but all the doctors in YourGP will be able to help. We don’t, however, prescribe bio-identical hormones.
“I was surprised to meet a GP with such a ready smile and willingness to give me the time I needed. I felt we had a conversation as equals and that she actually heard what I said. A couple of blood tests, a physiotherapy referral and I am better than I have been in a very long time”View more testimonials
