Why it’s more important than ever to get your flu vaccine this year.

Why it’s more important than ever to get your flu vaccine this year

    Posted on July 26th, 2020

It may seem odd to be talking about the winter flu season in the middle of summer, but given the current circumstances, with COVID-19 still posing a very real risk and the potential for a second surge of the virus in the coming months, it makes sense to start planning ahead. And this year, it will be more important than ever to get your flu vaccine for three key reasons:

Why is it important for individuals to get vaccinated?

    • It is likely that a person infected with both coronavirus and flu will have a higher risk of complications.
    • Large numbers of cases of flu combined with coronavirus could potentially overwhelm hospitals.
    • If a large number of NHS or care home staff are sick with flu, they will not have the capacity to respond as required to another potential surge in COVID-19 cases.

Who can get the flu vaccine?

The vaccine is available to anyone from 6 months old. Children aged 6-24 months are eligible for the injectable flu vaccine, and children from 2 years are eligible for either the nasal spray or injection.

Is it worth considering the YourGP Corporate Flu package?

YourGP offers a Corporate Flu package as part of our Occupational Healthcare. It can be an effective way of reducing employee absence – which can have a massive effect on performance, productivity and profits – a major concern for many businesses hit by the recent Lockdown restrictions.

When can I get the vaccine?

YourGP will be offering vaccination appointments from Tuesday 22nd September onwards, while stocks last.

How much does the flu vaccine cost?

    Single dose, injection: £20.00
Single dose, nasal spray: £TBC (currently unavailable)

Payment will be taken in full at the time of booking.

    Are there any side effects?

Very occasionally, some people may experience side effects. However, the nurse will discuss this in detail before administering the vaccine.

Where can I find further information?

You can view further details on the flu vaccine HERE.

Received injections from Lynn at the surgery. Hadn’t had an injection in 12 years, so was terrified walking through the front door at first. My mind was put at ease instantly. Very nice people, was given lots of great advice, and the injections were a piece of cake. Couldn’t be happier. Recommended!
