Get perfect skin in time for the New Year

    Girl getting microdermabrasion treatment

    Posted on December 24th, 2015

As the year draws to a close, it’s almost time to start thinking about your New Year’s resolutions, like how you’re going to take better care of your skin next year and make sure it’s looking at its radiant best in 2016.

Thankfully for you, this may be the one resolution we’ll be able to help you stick to, as at YourGP in Edinburgh, we’re offering medical microdermabrasion with a chemical peel for only £45.

    So what is medical microdermabrasion?

Simply put, medical microdermabrasion is a safe, non-invasive cosmetic treatment, which is used as an alternative to chemical, surgical and laser skin resurfacing.

But how does it work? Well, during microdermabrasion, your face is sprayed with exfoliant crystals to remove the dead epidermal skin cells, leaving you with younger, softer and more radiant skin.

It’s suitable for all skin types, and can help treat acne-prone skin and acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, age spots, hyper-pigmentation, oily skin and dry/patchy skin.

    Chemical peel combination

At our private medical practice in Edinburgh, we use a chemical peel in conjunction with microdermabrasion.

Now, we know the idea of a chemical peel might be a little scary, but the treatment we use is a mild fruit acid peel containing salicylic, lactic and citric acid, and is suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

Unlike modern day facials, a microdermabrasion and peel combined penetrates the skin. This helps hydrate, exfoliate and cleanse the skin beneath the surface, thus improving imperfection and general skin appearance.

Although microdermabrasion is suitable for all skin types, chemical peels are not suitable during pregnancy or if you’re allergic to fruit, mushrooms or asprin.

Of course, our cosmetic assistant, Sarah, will discuss all aspects of the treatment with you prior to going ahead, and the chemical peel is always optional to the microdermabrasion.

Why I love microdermabrasion and chemical peel treatments

Don’t just take our word for it though. We asked our regular client Emma how she feels about our microdermabrasion and chemical peel treatment.

“I’ve had several microdermabrasions and chemical peels from YourGP and cannot recommend the treatment enough,” she says.

“I unfortunately suffer from very dry skin due to eczema, but I love how this practically disappears following the treatment.

“Like all microdermabrasions, I am left with a little peeling, but this is a great result of the treatment as it means all the dead skin cells are flaking away.

“Once all the peeling has gone, I am left with glowing, smooth and younger looking skin. People are always quick to ask me if I’ve been trying something new.

“I always make sure I book in for a microdermabrasion prior to a big event, and I’ve already booked my appointment to ensure I’m looking my best for my Christmas party.”

If you want to follow Emma’s example and make sure your skin is in perfect condition for the New Year, call our reception team on 0131 225 5656 to arrange your appointment.
