One member of our highly professional reception staff is Emma McKay, whose friendly and welcoming personality provides a warm and inviting environment to all visitors to our clinic.
Emma’s affable personality, combined with her previous experience as a customer service receptionist at The Scotsman Publications, led us to promote her to reception manager after just six months as a medical receptionist.
We asked Emma how it felt to be promoted to reception manager, and found out what she loves most about working at YourGP.
She says: “After only being with YourGP for six months, I was slightly overwhelmed when I was offered the chance to apply for the Reception Manager position.
“I wasn’t sure if I was ready for such a pressured role, but at the same time, I was very excited for a new challenge.
“The greatest feeling was how appreciated I felt being given the chance of a managerial role; it really highlights the potential the practice sees in me.
“Having been settled in the position for a couple of months now, I am pleased to say it has been the best career decision I have ever made.
“Sometimes you need to take a leap even if you are anxious as to the outcome. I feel as if I’ve grown as a person in the last few weeks; developing my skills as a manager and learning so many new aspects of the business.
Emma, who grew up and still lives in the Leith area of Edinburgh, attended Leith Academy High School, before starting work at The Scotsman Publications.
She worked at The Scotsman for seven years, which helped develop her brilliant understanding of providing first class customer care.
She also has extensive administrative experience, which helps her provide professional and proficient admin support to the clinicians, and ensure the smooth running of reception.

I needed a quick appointment as I was leaving for America. The doctor listened and allayed any concerns.
