Practice Nurse

It was whilst Annika was studying human biology as a teen that she discovered her passion for nursing. And so, she embarked upon almost five years of studies at Arcada University of Applied Sciences in Finland before graduating as a registered nurse and midwife in 2018.

Annika’s time of intensive study and her experience since graduating has served to highlight to her the importance of compassion and empathy in nursing. She finds nursing a very rewarding profession, but also understandably a tough one at times. However, any challenges are offset by all the lovely people she gets to meet on a daily basis, and she particularly enjoys building relationships with patients who require repeat visits to the practice.

At YourGP, you’ll find Annika conducting offshore medical appointments and carrying out various blood tests, as well as drug and alcohol screenings. She also oversees DSE assessments as part of YourGP’s Occupational Health services.

For Annika, YourGP is a unique place to work. The setting within Edinburgh’s historic Dean Village makes it particularly special, as does her close-knit team of colleagues – each of whom has a passion for their profession, which makes coming to work a genuine joy.

In her spare time, Annika enjoys reading and embroidery when relaxing at home. However, she also loves hiking and exploring the great outdoors, and feels privileged to be able to explore Scotland’s many beautiful places.

In all that she does, Annika tries to live by the advice that one should always be kind to others as you never know what kind of battles they are fighting. These words illustrate Annika’s natural compassion and empathy – characteristics that make her such a valued practice nurse at YourGP.
