YourGP supports the call for tighter cosmetic regulation

And this not only applies to our medical treatments, but to our range of cosmetic treatments too. However, not everyone adheres to the same strict guidelines that YourGP does. In fact, at present, the UK cosmetic industry is largely unregulated which means that anyone, regardless of whether or not they’re a medical professional, can administer injectable cosmetic products. Unsurprisingly, this means things can go wrong, and whilst treatments such as lip fillers have grown in popularity, unfortunately so too has the number of botched jobs carried out by unqualified, unregulated people.

It is for this reason that the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons is calling for much tighter regulation on who is legally allowed to carry out injectable cosmetics such as lip fillers.

Thankfully, the Government is listening and has issued the following statement; “We are currently exploring options to strengthen regulation of cosmetic procedures and improve the safety through better training, robust qualifications for practitioners, and better information so that people can make informed decisions about their care.”
