Getting children involved in a team sport is a fantastic way to help set them off on a healthy path in life. Not only does it encourage them to stay physically fit and active, it can be equally beneficial for children’s mental health too. Plus, it provides a valuable opportunity for them to develop important social and leadership skills, build resilience, and enjoy a sense of belonging.
The team at YourGP recognise what a valuable role youth sports teams can play in shaping the health and wellbeing of the next generation. And so, at the end of 2024 we asked you which local team deserved a helping hand.
From football squads to netball teams, we asked you what made your club such an important part of your community. Here are just some of our favourite responses;
Edinburgh South CFC: “This football team is an essential resource for the young people in the area. It gets the kids outside, it keeps them fit but it also teaches them teamwork and the discipline of showing up for training and matches.”
Spartans FC Youth: “Spartans FC Youth is a group of around 50 children who all follow the Spartans values – teamwork, bravery, passion, respect and enjoyment. As a club, they constantly seek to stretch and challenge the abilities of the players.”
Cobras Under 18s: “Engaging girls and young women in team sports is one of the best things we can do to improve their physical and mental health outcomes.”
Currie Star 2014s: “Currie Star 2014 teaches a fab group of 10 year old boys the value of teamwork, communication and resilience. They work hard on the pitch and have brilliant positive attitudes. The club is a great asset to the community which brings together difference boys from all spectrums of our diverse community.”
Craigroyston 2011 Blues: “The coaches are a difference class with the kids, using their own time to keep the young people off the streets. Plus helping them with fitness and mental health, teaching them skills and teamwork.”
One lucky team was selected at random to receive a full set of brand new kits and we are delighted to announce that the winner was Spartans FC Youth.
A spokesperson for the team said, “Spartans FC Youth is very grateful to YourGP for their support and for sponsoring the new match kit of the 2014 squad.”
Congratulations to Spartans FC Youth and keep up the fantastic work supporting Edinburgh’s sports stars of the future!
The best place in Edinburgh for private GP services (I have tried several). Very professional practice management able to answer any queries in a very timely manner. The nurse, Lynn is very knowledgeable and caring, able to put not only me but also my three months old son at ease. I am very happy with the service I have received.
