Yellow Fever is such a serious illness that we feel a repeat blog is appropriate. The Yellow Fever vaccine is available at YourGP’s specialist travel clinic.
A mosquito bite that delivers a potentially fatal viral infection in certain areas of the world, predominantly Central and South America and Sub-saharan Africa.
If you are planning a holiday to any of these destinations you MUST have your yellow fever vaccination, not only to protect yourself and prevent the international spread of the disease, some countries require proof of vaccination against yellow fever before they let you enter and sometimes leave the country.
If you cannot prove you have received the yellow fever vaccine at least 10 days before arriving at your destination, you are likely to be stopped at immigration and can be refused entry.
You receive a specific certificate for yellow fever vaccination that you need to provide as evidence, more specifically, places like Africa and South America there have been instances where people are not allowed to enter/exit a country because they do not have the correct certificate.
The vaccine (Stamaril) is only allowed to be administered at registered centres, like YourGP.
Your certificate is valid for 10 years.
In the UK, the British National Schedule vaccinates us against diseases that are prevalent in the UK.
The vaccine is severely short supply nationwide and is increasingly difficult to get as a result.
Currently the vaccine is available in multidose vial for 10 people that must be destroyed within 6 hours of being opened, instead of a single use – individual vial. This has a major impact on meeting traveller short notice demand.
Hopefully clinic flexibility will be possible again soon, but in the meantime YourGP is one of the few designated centres currently with vaccine stock.

All my needs, including requests for appointments and treatment enquiries, were met with enthusiasm and sense of wanting to help. No question seemed inappropriate or trivial.
