When it comes a persistent cough or niggling joint pain, many of us don’t think twice about booking an appointment with a doctor to get the issue seen to and sorted ASAP. And that’s exactly how it should be! But when it comes to sexual health and wellbeing, far too many people are held back by embarrassment.

The team at YourGP are passionate about ending this embarrassment. We’re here to listen to any concerns, provide advice, screening tests and effective treatments when necessary, to get you back on the road to good health.

To help you feel more comfortable, here’s what you can expect from a sexual health appointment at YourGP.

      Discretion guaranteed

First and foremost, it is important to remember that YourGP offers a wide range of GP services, so you can feel reassured that no one will know the nature of your visit if you happen to be seen popping into our practice.

Secondly, we offer a simple online booking system, which means you don’t even need to speak to our reception team if you don’t feel comfortable discussing the nature of your visit.

      Questions we may ask

Some people feel more comfortable when they know what sort of questions they will be asked by the doctor. To get a comprehensive overview of your sexual health and wellbeing, our doctors may ask you some questions based on the “5 Ps of sexual health”:

      1. Partners: We may ask about the nature of your current relationship, the number of partners you have and their gender.
      2. Practices: We may need to ask about the type of sexual contact you have engaged in to determine what testing may be most appropriate or to discuss how to reduce risks.
      3. Protection from STIs: We may ask what contraception methods you currently use to prevent STIs and pregnancy.
      4. Past history of STIs: We may need to know if you have ever been tested or treated for an STI in the past.
      5. Pregnancy plans: We may need to ask if you are looking to prevent an unwanted pregnancy or if you are actively trying to conceive.

Common issues we can help you with

Our discretion, short-notice appointments and fast turnaround of test results have all helped to establish YourGP as the go-to place for our patients when they need an STI test.

However, our highly qualified team can also provide confidential advice and assistance on a wide range of sexual health matters and relationship issues. Common problems we can help you with include erectile dysfunction, loss of libido, pain during sex and infertility worries.

      Why choose YourGP?

      • Discretion and confidentiality
      • Short-notice appointments
      • Fast turnaround of test results
      • Effective treatments
      • Support and advice from highly qualified GPs

If you have a sexual health concern that you would like to discuss with one of our doctors, you can use our simple online booking system, call 0131 225 5656, or email our reception team at reception@your.gp to book an appointment at a time that suits you.

I went in for an allergy shot and was thoroughly pleased with the practice from start to finish. They informed me with the all the necessary details and potential side effects (which thankfully I didn’t have). The level of professionalism is felt from the time you enter all the way through the end of your appointment! Thank you! See you next year!
