When it comes to ageing skin, there’s only so much that moisturisers and make-up can do to recreate that youthful radiance. To recapture that glow, your skin requires help on a deeper level. Read on as the aesthetic experts at YourGP reveal how a skin booster treatment could be just what your skin is crying out for.
As we age, our levels of collagen and elastin naturally deplete. Both of these proteins are essential for youthful looking skin. Collagen acts as the skin’s “scaffolding”, providing structure and strength, while elastin gives the skin elasticity, enabling it to stretch and snap back.
For women, levels of collagen and elastin typically start to drop when they reach their late 20s / early 30s, and the process accelerates greatly when they hit the perimenopause and menopause years. As a result, skin starts to sag, the cheeks lose volume, the jawline loses definition, jowls start to form and the skin takes on a more lacklustre appearance.
The good news is that aesthetic medicine has now advanced to a point where the skin can be stimulated to produce more collagen and elastin, to effectively replace what time has taken away.
The skin booster treatment at YourGP, for example, involves injecting targeted areas with a thin hyaluronic acid gel. This boosts hydration levels deep within the skin and stimulates the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, resulting in firmer, more elastic skin. It also helps to plump the skin to minimise fine lines and wrinkles and improve skin texture.
The skin booster treatment at YourGP is suitable for all skin types, however those with more mature skin are likely to see more significant results. The results can be expected to last around three months, although this is dependent on a variety of factors including how exposed your skin is to the sun, your diet, your skincare routine and whether or not you smoke, for example.
The treatment itself contains a numbing agent and it is administered through a very fine needle which helps to minimise any discomfort.
A little redness and swelling is to be expected post-treatment, but this should naturally subside after just a couple of days. To maximise your treatment results, we advise for the first 24 – 48 hours you:
The skin booster treatment at YourGP is a great way to achieve younger, natural-looking results. For many patients, combination treatments can turn the clock back even further.
For example, anti-wrinkle injections can be used to relax targeted muscles to soften any dynamic wrinkles, and dermal fillers can be used to replace lost volume and create a contouring effect.
When considering a combination treatment, it is always best to have a thorough consultation with an aesthetics professional to discuss the treatment plan. They will be able to advise how best to stagger the treatments, how much time should be left between treatments, and if treatments should be limited to specific separate areas.

I needed a quick appointment as I was leaving for America. The doctor listened and allayed any concerns. It was a pleasure to talk to a doctor who wasn’t watching the clock and not paying attention to me. I left confident that if a problem arose I would be able to deal with it until I arrived home. The experience left me feeling confident and positive.
