That’s why we’re delighted to introduce the two newest members of the YourGP team – Matt Bulkeley, a GP who focuses on acupuncture and joint injections, and Eleni Kantzou, the first ever dentist to join YourGP.

Meet Matt: Reducing pain with acupuncture and joint injections

Dr Bulkeley, who has a particular interest in musculoskeletal problems, studied at the University of St Andrews and the University of Wales before completing his medical training within Lothian.

Following his membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners, he added to his qualifications, through the British Institute for Musculoskeletal Medicine and the British Medical Acupuncture Society.

While working with patients, Matt focuses on finding ways of improving their functions and reducing pain – something he knows about all too well. Indeed, it was thanks to his first-hand experience of a serious back condition and the relief acupuncture provided that Matt decided to train in the complementary treatment in the first place.

He now works as a freelance GP around Lothian and also offers various treatment options at YourGP, including western medical acupuncture, a therapeutic adaptation of the traditional Chinese acupuncture.

He also offers steroid and hyaluronic acid injections to provide effective anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving treatment to joints such as the knee or shoulder.

Let’s introduce Lena: General and cosmetic dental care

With GPs, paramedics, psychologists and therapists among our ranks, we have a range of staff to cater to all your health needs. All we were missing at YourGP was a dentist – until now that is.

Eleni Kantzou, or Lena as she’s better known, has been successfully treating patients with a variety of challenging dental problems for the past 17 years.

Having worked as a dentist in her native Greece for 15 years, Lena then worked as a general and cosmetic dentist in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the central belt, covering everything from general to more specialised treatments, including prosthodontics (such as crowns, bridges and veneers), implant treatments and adult orthodontics like invisible braces.

At YourGP, Lena will be offering cosmetic dentistry treatments, including veneers, crowns, bridges, implants and teeth whitening, ensuring that you have healthy teeth and gums and the best smile. Of course, she’ll also be providing preventative and general dentistry, such as root canal treatment, tooth removal and fillings.

There are increasing concerns over the historic use of amalgam (the material used in black/silver fillings) as it contains mercury, so Lena will also be working closely with our resident paramedic, Lynn, to analyse the levels of mercury in your body and advise on any required measures to re-establish health.

In addition, Lena has the necessary skills, techniques and tests required to identify potential allergies in any procedures, including titanium in dental implants.

As you know, our approach at YourGP is based around listening, and we always ensure that our patients have a friendly and reassuring experience. Like the rest of our staff, Lena will continue this trend with her friendly manner, which helps her put even the most dental-phobic patients at ease.
