Children’s healthcare: A YourGP priority

The majority of the UK public believe that children’s healthcare should be an important priority for doctors and GPs – and we couldn’t agree more here at YourGP.

According to a ComRes poll commissioned by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, 94% of the public say that children’s healthcare should be a priority for the NHS.

And at YourGP private health practice in Edinburgh, our specialist children’s GPs are dedicated to understanding and resolving worries, concerns and illness.

The UK’s rates of child mortality and childhood obesity are the highest in western Europe, and in order to improve children’s health in Edinburgh, we offer a complete range of doctor services.

Children’s health services at YourGP

Our specific children’s clinic, led by experienced children’s specialist GP, Dr Jo McCrone, offers baby jabs, development checks, and immunisations and vaccines.

The full national schedule vaccines are available, such as meningitis, flu and MMR. We also offer the meningitis B, chickenpox and hepatitis B paediatric vaccines, as well as the HPV vaccine for boys and girls from nine years old.

Unlike other GPs in Edinburgh and across Scotland, one of the services we offer is to take children’s blood tests in our clinic, which can be done at the weekend, including Sundays.

This is convenient for busy and working parents and carers, as is the fact that results are generally back within just 48 hours.

Flexible service for parents and carers

With our focus being on the entire family, not only the sick child, we are fully aware of the anxieties associated with an unwell youngster.

We also know that it can be difficult to know where to turn for advice or support, and hard to arrange time off work for GP appointments.

To help fit in with your busy schedule, we offer longer opening hours, seven days a week – meaning you don’t need to worry about rearranging your busy schedule or taking time off work.

And as we’re part of the Samedaydoctor network, we can also offer short-notice appointments within 24 hours.

A friendly, calm environment for children

The specialist children’s GPs at the clinic are fully aware of how important a friendly, calm environment is for children, and they strive to make visits as relaxed and comfortable as possible.

They are also fully aware of the anxieties associated with an unwell child, and with longer consultation times of 15 minutes, 30 minutes and one hour, are fully prepared to listen to you in order to help resolve worries, concerns and illnesses.

If YourGP sounds like the type of environment where you would feel relaxed and comfortable with your child, arrange an appointment using our online booking form.

Just a massive thank you for being so willing to help us out. I was kept up to date in all email communication between the two clinics which I found very reassuring. I honestly can not emphasize enough how grateful we both are that the clinic was able to help us out with the Zita West fertility tests. We really did not know what we were going to do after the mix up with the blood collection dates due to the 4th of July in America and really thought we would have to give up on these tests so it means a massive amount to us that we have been able to proceed with them because of your willingness to help us out. Thank you again.
