Be kind on Chronic Disease Awareness Day

Be kind on Chronic Disease Awareness Day

      Posted on June 26th, 2025

A chronic disease is defined as a long-term health condition that typically lasts for a year or more and requires ongoing medical attention. The condition has an impact on the individual’s daily life and although it is manageable, it is not curable. Examples of chronic diseases that are common in the UK include arthritis, hypertension, asthma, COPD, dementia and diabetes. Each of these conditions comes with its own challenges and complexities, but worryingly one in four adults in the UK are currently suffering from two or more major long-term conditions.

Chronic Disease Awareness Day, which takes place each year on 10th July, is a day dedicated to shining a light on the struggles faced by those living with chronic disease. Its purpose is to create greater awareness in the hope that we can provide better treatment and management of conditions, as well as more effective prevention measures.

      Be kind, always

Living with a chronic condition can be exhausting, overwhelming and confusing. Many sufferers find themselves battling not just the condition itself but also additional challenges such as:

      • Physical pain
      • Side-effects of medication
      • Stress and worry
      • Low self-esteem
      • Social isolation

Not all chronic diseases are visible – you never know what health battles some people are fighting. And it’s not just about battling the physical symptoms. Studies show a strong link between chronic diseases and increased rates of depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. That is why it is so important to always be kind and patient.
