Anti-wrinkle treatments at YourGP: Helping you face the world again

      Posted on June 15th, 2021

As restrictions continue to ease and life gradually returns to normal, there are people who may be understandably feeling a little apprehensive about facing the world again. For some, a confidence booster in the form of a simple anti-wrinkle treatment can make all the difference.

For those who have never considered anti-wrinkle treatments before but who are intrigued by what a subtle change it can make to your appearance and the way you feel about yourself, we asked our resident fully qualified cosmetics experts to answer some of your most common questions.

What are anti-wrinkle treatments used for?
Most commonly, they’re used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that are the natural result of ageing. The most common areas we treat include deep creases between the eyebrows, frown lines on the forehead, and crow’s feet radiating away from the eyes.

You may be surprised to hear that anti-wrinkle injections are also a very effective treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and they have proven effectiveness in reducing the severity of migraines too.

      How does the treatment work?
Essentially it targets the muscles under the skin and causes them to relax. In turn, this causes the overlying skin to become smooth, reducing lines and wrinkles to create a more youthful appearance.

How long do the results last?
The effects can last between three and six months, depending on the depth of your contours and whether you have previously had any treatments.

Who can and can’t have the treatment?
The anti-wrinkle treatments available at YourGP are suitable for most adults, however if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, on blood coagulation medication such as Warfarin, or suffer from Myasthenia Gravis, we advise against having them.

      What happens during the treatment?
Prior to any anti-wrinkle treatment, you will have a complimentary consultation with a fully qualified practitioner to ensure the treatment is appropriate for you. During this consultation, they will discuss the treatment in depth and answer any questions you might have.

The treatment is administered as a series of injections with a very fine needle. It takes about 5-10 minutes to treat each area, and it usually takes around 30 minutes for the whole consultation and treatment to be completed.

      What happens after the treatment?
Some people may experience some mild or moderate side effects but these usually resolve themselves within a few days. We advise all patients to make an appointment for a follow-up consultation two weeks after their treatment. Here, our practitioner will make a full assessment of the treated area and top up if required. This is all included in the initial cost.

      How much does it cost?
Prices start at £240, depending on the area to be targeted. A £50 deposit is required to secure the appointment time and will be deducted from the final cost of your procedure.

The best place in Edinburgh for private GP services (I have tried several). Very professional practice management able to answer any queries in a very timely manner. The nurse, Lynn is very knowledgeable and caring, able to put not only me but also my three months old son at ease. I am very happy with the service I have received.
