Aesthetics advice to help you face the winter

Aesthetics advice to help you face the winter

      Posted on November 18th, 2025

The winter season can wreak havoc on your skin. For starters, moving between the cold outdoors to the warm indoors can cause your skin to feel dry, lacklustre and flaky – the opposite of the healthy ‘glow’ we all want for party season. What’s more, this dryness can exacerbate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. But don’t worry, because the aesthetics experts at YourGP are here with their top tips to improve your skin health this winter, and they’ve also got a couple of treatment recommendations if you feel like your skin could do with a little extra boost this season.

      Common winter complaints

There’s nowhere quite as picturesque as Edinburgh in the snow, especially if you’re viewing it from somewhere cosy indoors! However, cranking up the central heating reduces humidity in the air, which can have a negative impact on your skin barrier, causing you to lose essential moisture and contributing to skin dryness. Don’t worry though, as there are a few things you can do to help replace lost moisture:

      • Moisturise on a daily basis to help soothe the skin and protect your skin barrier
      • Aim to drink 2 litres of water per day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside
      • Invest in a humidifier to regulate the moisture quality of the air

      Other winter worries

Extreme temperatures can also leave the skin feeling more sensitive than usual, so avoid cleansing with harsh exfoliants or strongly fragranced products as this can cause redness and irritation.

And finally, don’t underestimate the power of the winter sun. Even in the depths of the Scottish winter, harmful UV rays can damage your skin, so it is important that you apply sunscreen on a daily basis throughout the year.

Need an extra boost this party season?

Hydrating and moisturising your skin can go some way to giving your skin a fresher look this winter. But if you’re keen to enlist the help of an expert to minimise lines and wrinkles, speak to the aesthetics experts at YourGP. Our range of cosmetic treatments are safe and effective, and could just give you the confidence boost you need this party season:

      • Dermal fillers: These can be used to counter volume loss, adding a youthful plumpness to areas such as the cheeks to effectively lift your look.
      • Anti-wrinkle injections: These can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines by relaxing the muscles, creating smoother looking skin.

A qualified and experienced aesthetics expert, such as YourGP’s Dr Cathrow, can combine these treatments for great results that look completely natural.

You can book a consultation with Dr Cathrow using our simple online booking system. Or you can email reception@your.gp, or call us on 0131 225 5656 and we’ll be happy to help you look your best this winter and beyond.
