YourGP supports the call for tighter cosmetic regulation

YourGP supports the call for tighter cosmetic regulations

      Posted on February 24th, 2020

Many people turn to YourGP because they know that no matter what treatment they require, they will be advised and treated by some of the most highly respected medical professionals in the field, each of whom is strictly regulated by the General Medical Council. And this not only applies to our medical treatments, but to our range of cosmetic treatments too. So when booking an appointment for an anti-wrinkle treatment or dermal fillers, you can relax in the knowledge that you’ll be seen by an ethical and safe practitioner.

However, not everyone adheres to the same strict guidelines that YourGP does. In fact, at present, the UK cosmetic industry is largely unregulated which means that anyone, regardless of whether or not they’re a medical professional, can administer injectable cosmetic products. Unsurprisingly, this means things can go wrong, and whilst treatments such as lip fillers have grown in popularity, unfortunately so too has the number of botched jobs carried out by unqualified, unregulated people.

It is for this reason that the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons is calling for much tighter regulation on who is legally allowed to carry out injectable cosmetics such as lip fillers.

Thankfully, the Government is listening and has issued the following statement; “We are currently exploring options to strengthen regulation of cosmetic procedures and improve the safety through better training, robust qualifications for practitioners, and better information so that people can make informed decisions about their care.”

YourGP is giving its full support to this call for tighter cosmetic regulations and we would advise anyone considering having a cosmetic procedure to keep the following advice in mind:

      1. Ensure your practitioner is a registered medical professional: All medical professionals at YourGP are strictly regulated by the General Medical Council.
      2. Ensure your treatment is carried out within a clean environment such as a clinic: YourGP prides itself on its exceptional clinical standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
      3. Check your practitioner has experience in administering the procedure: YourGP’s cosmetic experts undergo extensive training and attend refresher courses on a regular basis.
      4. Always ensure you follow the necessary aftercare advice: YourGP is open six days a week so should you have any questions following your treatment, we’re here, right when you need us.

If you have any questions or you’d like further advice about YourGP’s range of safe cosmetic treatments, call 0131 225 5656 or email reception@your.gp.

Your customer care which is extremely friendly, relaxed and professional has made all my visits easy and comfortable. Many thanks for your care and understanding in what for me was a difficult time.
