Every parent wants the best for their child, and one of the most important ways to safeguard their health is to ensure they receive all the necessary vaccinations. The routine childhood immunisation schedule is the result of extensive research and has been designed to protect against a wide range of serious illnesses.
Starting when your child is eight weeks old, the series of safe and effective immunisations will begin to protect them from diseases such as meningitis, tetanus and polio.
At a glance, the immunisations currently included in the UK’s routine childhood immunisation schedule are as follows:

Eight weeks old | DTaP/IPV/Hib/HepB | Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and hepatitis B |
MenB | Meningococcal group B (MenB)
Rotavirus gastroenteritis | Rotavirus

Twelve weeks old | DTaP/IPV/Hib/HepB | Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, Hib and hepatitis B |

One year old | Hib/MenC | Hib and MenC |
PCV booster | Pneumococcal
MMR | Measles, mumps and rubella (German measles)

In addition to these routine immunisations, YourGP also offers the chicken pox vaccine – currently not provided as standard by the NHS. In addition, we offer the meningitis B, hepatitis B paediatric vaccines to siblings who were born before their introduction to the NHS schedule.
Of course, it’s natural that as a parent you may feel anxious about your child receiving their immunisations, but YourGP’s team are highly experienced in this area and will take the time to reassure you and your child, to ensure the process is as relaxed and swift as possible.
