Whilst it can be incredibly exciting to be spontaneous, pack a bag and jump on a plane to some exotic far-off place, the reality is that some trips take a little more forward-planning. That’s because some destinations require proof of vaccination, such as an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), in order for you to enter or leave. Thankfully, YourGP’s Travel Clinic provides all the necessary advice, travel vaccinations and medication you need to ensure you have a safe and memorable trip.
Long before you start packing your suitcase, it’s important that you book a consultation at the YourGP’s Travel Clinic. Ideally, this should be at least 8 weeks before you’re due to travel because some vaccinations need to be given well in advance to allow your body to develop immunity, and some require a number of doses spread over the course of several weeks or months.

We understand that planning an overseas trip can be stressful – there is often so much to research, plan and organise. That’s why we are committed to making the medical preparations as straightforward as possible for you.
If travelling to an area where yellow fever is found, such as parts of sub-Saharan Africa, South America, Central America and Trinidad in the Caribbean, it is essential that you receive a yellow fever vaccination from a registered vaccination centre before embarking on your trip. You should be vaccinated at least 10 days before you travel to allow enough time for the vaccine to work, and you must bring the accompanying certificate with you on your travels.
If you’re planning an overseas trip this year, make an appointment at YourGP’s Travel Clinic today. You can use our convenient online booking form, call 0131 225 5656 or email our reception team at reception@your.gp to book and we’ll ensure your trip overseas gets off to the best possible start.
