Offshore Medicals at YourGP

At YourGP, we offer Occupational Health services in addition to our existing range of services, combining medical experience with knowledge of many different working conditions.

Dr Marikie Benade, who is an occupational health physician with more than 12 years’ experience in the field, leads the delivery of our corporate health and occupational health assessments, including offshore medicals.

Scotland’s oil and gas industry is recognised around the world, and there are a huge number of people living in Scotland who work in the industry – indeed it is estimated that 25% of people living in Aberdeenshire alone are employed in businesses relating to the industry.

These offshore workers are required to be examined on a regular basis and classified as medically fit to work offshore, and only physicians who are approved by the Oil & Gas UK Health Advisory Committee are allowed to carry out the examination.

Dr Benade is one of those recommended, and at YourGP, we carry out medical assessments to determine whether offshore workers have the required physical and mental attributes for work in the offshore environment.

Following an offshore medical, which complies with current legislation and is completely confidential, offshore workers are provided with a medical certificate, which is valid for two years (after which time, it needs to be renewed in order to continue working offshore).
