12 days of Christmas health and wellbeing

12 days of Christmas health and wellbeing

      Posted on December 20th, 2025

The festive period can fly by in a haze of parties, feasts and frantic shopping trips. But amongst all the hustle, bustle and seasonal stress, it’s important to make time to look after your health and wellbeing.

To help you do just that, the medical professionals at YourGP have compiled a list of 12 top tips. Prioritise one each day so you can get the most out of Christmas and welcome the New Year without feeling frazzled.

      Day 1: Head outside

Whilst it might be tempting to coorie in for the next couple of weeks, it’s a good idea to venture outside, stretch the legs, enjoy some fresh air and top up those depleting vitamin D levels. It’ll leave you feeling instantly invigorated.

      Day 2: Balance the diet

Christmas is a time of overindulgence, but make sure you’re balancing out all the festive feasts with fresh fruit and vegetables. You need those vitamins, minerals and nutrients to keep your immune system in tip top condition so you can fend off all the winter bugs, coughs and colds that are currently doing the rounds.

Day 3: Set aside time for self-care

Christmas is a time for giving to others, of course. But treating yourself to a little something, even if it’s just a bottle of bubble bath or a scented candle, is a great way to practice self-care.

Day 4: Step away from the screen

It’s easy to sit and scroll, but Christmas is no time for doomscrolling. And for anyone currently comparing their Christmas to others on social media, remember that comparison is the thief of joy. Social media only offers a glimpse into other people’s carefully curated highlights, and doesn’t show the stress, disappointments and toddler tantrums in between!

      Day 5: Reach out

If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by your Christmas to do list, reach out to friends and arrange to meet up and chat it through. It’s amazing how much better you can feel after off-loading to a loved one. Better still, delegate some tasks!

      Day 6: Keep active

Vegging out on the sofa for hours on end might sound appealing, but make sure you’re getting up and walking about at regular intervals to keep the circulation going.

Day 7: Put on a playlist

Listening to music is a great way to lift the spirits. Whether it’s the Christmas classics or some smooth jazz, losing yourself in music is the perfect way to forget those worries.

      Day 8: Stay hydrated

Bucks fizz at breakfast, bubbly at lunchtime, a glass of port, a cup of mulled wine… it all adds up. So make sure you’re keeping an eye on your alcohol intake and drinking plenty of water in between. Don’t forget, there are now plenty of “low and no” drinks options readily available at bars, restaurants and supermarkets.

      Day 9: Take a breather

Christmas can be hectic, so make time to have a time-out. Run a relaxing bath, try a little gentle yoga or some guided meditation or breathing exercises to help lower the heart rate.

Day 10: Don’t blow the budget

Money worries can have a big impact on a person’s mental health so don’t feel pressured into spending more money than you feel comfortable with. The best gifts are the ones that have meaning, were chosen with thought or made with love.

      Day 11: Practice gratitude

Ending each day by thinking of three things you’re grateful for can be a great way to help change a negative mindset to a positive one – we all have a lot to be thankful for.

      Day 12: Get a good night’s sleep

They call it the party season, but it’s important to factor in some early nights so you can catch up on quality sleep, recharge the batteries and enjoy the festive season to the fullest.

From everyone here at YourGP, we wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!

I had been at this practice since late 2018. The staff have been nothing but amazing! The care given here has to be the best care I’ve ever received at any practice. Very polite, greeted with a smile and always made sure you were comfortable.

The response times are extremely quick, always on that day or early next morning, pointing you into the right direction. Even if they were unable to assist, they would always make sure you knew where to go and what to do.

Your appointments are always accommodated to your needs, some imes I was unable to make my routine appointments in person so they would happily offer a Skype call which made things easier as I live a few hours away, but was always happy to make the trip when I could as it was always a pleasant experience.

I cannot thank this practice enough for the help that they gave me, I now feel confident and comfortable with myself and I would definitely recommend their services!
