Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist
Here at YourGP, we understand that for any parent, there’s no greater worry than that concerning their child’s health. However, when you turn to YourGP, you can rest assured they will be looked after by some of the most knowledgeable, experienced and caring healthcare professionals in the country – a description that’s certainly true of Dr Iain McClure, our Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist.
As well as a degree in Medicine, Dr McClure is a qualified Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and had twenty years of valuable experience working as a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist for the NHS before joining YourGP’s Gender Clinic. His achievements within that time are nothing short of inspiring.
His specialist interest in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), together with his dedication to the field, led to his appointment as chair and co-author of the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) guideline on ASD for children, young people and adults. He was also an Expert Reviewer for two of the three NICE guidelines on ASD. In addition, Dr McClure has led extensive government-funded research on ASD assessment and published many co-authored papers on ASD and mental health related subjects. Dr McClure has also enjoyed the positions of Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Dr McClure also undertakes medico-legal work, having completed a degree in Law and English at Cambridge University.
For Dr McClure, helping patients and their families deal with some of the biggest challenges of their life is equally the most difficult yet most rewarding part of his job. Throughout his career, Dr McClure has shown unwavering commitment to his vocation, so if your child ever needs to see him, you should have no doubt they will be in the very safest of hands.Back to all staff
After being written off by chronic pain team and their physios, and losing faith in the physio discipline, I had no expectations from Peter. I am amazed at what he has done for me. Although I still have my pain I, at last, understand what’s happening, why and how to best manage it. Peter has given me the control back. I recommend Peter to anyone I meet who needs a good physio.
