GP & Trainee Gender Specialist
Being able to provide genuine care and support to those who have experienced a very difficult journey thus far is, Dr Vracar believes, the most rewarding part of her job. And it is something that has motivated her since the very beginning of her medical career.
Dr Vracar studied at Birmingham University then at King’s College London, and she credits this training in inner-city London as giving her a broad and diverse learning experience in both hospital medicine and primary care.
During this time, Dr Vracar also regularly volunteered with Greenlight, a charity which provides basic medical care and support to London’s homeless population – something which she found to be a memorable and highly rewarding experience.
Dr Vracar completed her University Medical Elective in Uganda, where she focused on Women’s Health and women’s experiences of obstetric fistula. Her time here saw her push herself, make life-long friends, and get stuck-in with the local community.
After completing further training here in Edinburgh, Dr Vracar became a GP in 2019 and is currently training as a Gender Specialist with YourGP’s Dr Chong – the highlights of which she says are noticing the positive, long-awaited changes in patients who embark on medical transition, and being there as a source of affirmation for trans and gender-queer folk.
Dr Vracar is a huge believer in treating every person as a whole and addressing all physical, emotional and psychological needs. Patients return to her because of her meticulous, supportive, and personalised approach.
Outside the practice, Dr Vracar loves nothing more than to get lost in the hills with her girlfriend and dog, spoil friends with home-cooked food, and spend quality time with family. She lives by the mantra, “Be kind” as she believes everyone is fighting a battle. For many patients at YourGP, having Dr Vracar on their side in the battle can make a world of difference to their life.Back to all staff
I needed a quick appointment as I was leaving for America. The doctor listened and allayed any concerns. It was a pleasure to talk to a doctor who wasn’t watching the clock and not paying attention to me. I left confident that if a problem arose I would be able to deal with it until I arrived home. The experience left me feeling confident and positive.
