Joint Injections

Joint injections, carried out by Dr Carrie McCrea, are administered to patients who are suffering from painful joints – often from an injury or arthritis.

Ostenil injections offer an alternative to the more commonly used steroid injections and can be very effective, low risk management for osteoarthritis. Ostenil is often chosen for younger or very active patients but can be considered for anyone affected with osteoarthritis. Ostenil is a solution containing sodium hyaluronate which is a key component of synovial fluid. It is this fluid that helps acts as a natural shock absorber: by increasing the amount of sodium hyaluronate within the joint pain and stiffness can be reduced.

The sodium hyaluronate in OSTENIL® is very pure and is manufactured using a process called fermentation. It contains no animal proteins, which means that it is very unlikely to cause an allergic reaction.

OSTENIL® has been given to thousands of patients and has not been found to cause any serious side effects.

How It Works

All patients will be assessed clinically prior to injection. Following this, where appropriate, Dr McCrea will administer Ostenil to the affected joint.

Depending on the treatment course selected this will either be a solitary injection or three weekly injections.

The procedure will be carried out within a 20 minute appointment during which a full discussion around the risks and benefits will be had along with completion of a signed consent form.

Benefits are sometimes not noticed immediately after the first injection, but gradual reductions in pain and stiffness should become apparent over a few weeks. The improvement in symptoms should last for several months, depending partly on the number of injections you have. Benefits from three injections usually last for up to 9 months.

What Our Customers Have To Say

“I needed a quick appointment as I was leaving for America. The doctor listened and allayed any concerns. It was a pleasure to talk to a doctor who wasn't watching the clock and not paying attention to me. I left confident that if a problem arose I would be able to deal with it until I arrived home. The experience left me feeling confident and positive.”
