The Bowen Technique (also known as Bowtech / Original Bowen Technique / Bowenwork) is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy developed by, the late, Tom Bowen in Australia. Sometimes called the ‘homeopathy of bodywork’ it utilises subtle moves to the body stimulating, often profound, self-healing.
At YourGP this procedure is carried out by Jacqui Hoitingh (Marshall).
The Bowen Technique offers tremendous benefit to clients providing holistic relief from many types of injury and health problems, acute and chronic, via the body’s innate healing mechanisms. The practitioner’s moves deliver signals to the nervous system at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments or nerves), and the body responds in its own time. Bowen Technique is appropriate for people of all ages, in all degrees of health (there are a few very specific contra indicated conditions).
The majority of clients treated have conditions which have developed over many years, where dysfunctional muscle recruitment and posture have become entrenched over time. In these cases, Bowtech practitioners often adopt a more ‘whole-body’ approach for optimal alignment and recovery.

How It Works
Typically Bowen Technique sessions last 45 minutes.
Single Treatment – £55
Course of Five Treatments – £250
Clients usually lie on a massage / bodywork table or bed (seated in a chair can be accommodated).
A ‘session’ involves one or more ‘procedures’, each of which consists of several sets of ‘moves’, these are gentle, but purposeful, done through light clothing. The practitioner pauses for the client’s body to respond; as the nervous system adjusts the tension level in the muscles.
A common appointment approach is to balance the entire body starting with the lower back, the upper back and then the neck.
