They say travel broadens the mind, so not only does our globetrotting GP, Dr Francis Carnegy, bring a plethora of qualifications to the table, he also brings years of valuable experience and a good dose of worldly wisdom too.
After studying at the University of Edinburgh and completing his junior doctor training, Dr Carnegy moved to New Zealand where he gained further experience in cardiology and emergency medicine. A few years later, he returned to Scotland to complete his GP training in the Borders, before moving to London to take up a position as a GP. With a passion for travel and charitable work, he also escaped the city for short periods doing volunteer roles in Mozambique and Zambia. Then came his big move to Canada where he worked for several years in an idyllic rural town at the foot of the Rockies, before returning home to Scotland to bring up his young family.
Despite putting down roots with his wife and three daughters here in Edinburgh, travel still plays a big part in Dr Carnegy’s professional life – his extensive experience makes him a welcome addition to YourGP’s Travel Clinic for example. Plus, with a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (DTMH), Dr Carnegy provides ongoing volunteer support to rural clinics in Zambia via telemedicine through the charity, The Virtual Doctors.
From treating young to old, simple to complex, reassuring to consoling, Dr Carnegy is here for any problem. He is dedicated to forming long-term doctor-patient relationships which he believes is critical for good, effective medicine.
“My medical was conducted in detail and I had a thorough check. The doctor listened to me and gave me some extra tips that are helpful. Most impressed.”View more testimonials
